31-Layers

30- Wrath in Detail

Colors are fun, painting is fun.  This is a detail of a very large piece by my friend Shaun Whiteside entitled "Wrath II."  At 6' tall and 4' wide, it dominates my hallway.  Canon 50D, 1/30th sec @ f/1.8, ISO 800.

29- Fly by night

Trying long exposures at Times Square this evening.  Kind of interesting, I was amazed I could hold the camera steady enough to capture the taxi going by.  Canon 50D, 1/15th sec @ f/8, ISO 1600, Fish-eye lens.

28-Workin' Girl

Kelly King's Single Workin' Girl has spent 13 weeks on Billboard's Dance Chart.  This shot was from her 1 AM performance in New York.  The photos were done in very low saturated light, so pulling skin tones was rather interesting.  Canon 50D, 1/20th sec @ f/5.6, ISO 3200.

27- At Work

Local Artist Tatiana Vallejo paints part of her mural for Wayne's Wash World III in Highland Park.  I always enjoy the unfinished work of an artist even though most would prefer you not see their work until the final product is ready for display.  Canon 50D, 1/60th sec @ f/8, ISO 100.

26-Now Departing

The Departure board at New York Penn Station.  This fixture dominates the waiting area with most passengers focus fixed upon it.  When it updates track listings, the crowd shifts as fast as it can toward the departure gate.  This waiting area services Amtrak and NJ Transit.  Canon 50D, 1/60th @ f/4, ISO 1000, Takumar Fish Eye Lens.

25-Passing Storm

Going door to door in the drizzle today, caught a line of trees with the clouds rolling past.  Lacking a real camera I did the next best thing and used my phone, then converted to Black and White. iPhone.

24- Apples to Apples

Apple has come a long way from this 1 Megabyte stick of expandable RAM from 1986.  The IIGS Memory expansion card came with 256k of memory built in with the ability to hold up to a Megabyte to augment the 256k already present in the Apple IIGS computer system.  Presently this marks the third Apple product to grace my household, along with the iPhone and Macbook Pro.  Canon 50D, 1/50th sec @ f/5.6, ISO 800, Vivitar Macro Lens.

23-Pure flame

Taking this photo in RAW, I pushed the white balance and green balance to their extremes, and boosted the contrast and saturation of the image prior to importing.  Not sure where this will technique will go, but it has a nice result none the less.  Canon 50D, 1/100th sec @ f/4, ISO 400, 55mm Pentax lens, color adjusted.

22-Mounts

The EF mount on my canon lens.  My adapter came in so now I can use my old screw mount Pentax stuff on my Canon.  Because I haven't bought film in a long while, this is the first time in a few years my Pentax lenses have seen any action.  Canon 50D, 1/20th sec @f/3.5, ISO 800, 75-205mm macro zoom lens.

21-Meadowlands

Taken this morning on my trip to north Jersey for a job interview.  Canon 50D, 1/640th sec @ f/10, ISO 100.

20-Blue Sky

Generic non descriptive clouds, with a very blue sky.  Nothing special but it looked interesting to me non the less.  Canon 50D, 1/200th sec @ f/20, ISO 100, color saturated.

19-Grandfather's marbles

When my grandparents sold their farm and moved to Florida.  They divided my grandfather's marble collection among the family.  I keep mine in a crystal candy dish from the same source.  Canon 50D, 1/60th sec @ f/22, ISO 100, flash.

18-Trees

More with the infra-red.  This time it was nice enough to go to one of the local parks in New Brunswick and play with exposure levels.  I think the 950nm filter is a bit more than the camera can handle and might look into getting something in the 700nm range, allowing more of the visible spectrum in.  Canon 50D, 30sec @ f/8, ISO 400, toned.

17-Bass

There was a Jazz band at the coffee shop today.  I tried balancing exposure of the upright bass against the exposure of the glass wall behind it.  Canon 50D, 1/40th sec @ f/7.1, ISO 400.

16-High Energy

This was a red laser pen pointed directly at the camera from close range.  The shorter lines surrounding the bright point are caused by the laser hitting each piece of glass in the lens.  I got a lot of good shots out of this experiment but this one was particularly nice.  Canon 50D, 1/200th @ f/5.6, ISO 100.

15-Coupling

First, I like trains, so my commute is rather fun pulling into NY Penn.  Today though I was trying to see if I could update this thing from my phone, which I can, I just can't post a photo, which defeats the whole point.  iPhone.

14-950nm

Taken out my front room window with a 950nm Infra-red lens.  I used to do a lot of infra-red work so I thought about playing with it some more today.  Canon 50D, 11min @ f/8, ISO 100, IR filter.

13-1865

Today I decided to try playing with the flash on the Canon.  I don't normally do much with it so I thought taking today's photo would give me the chance to experiment with it.  This is the silver water urn gifted from St. John Methodist church in 1865, presented to "Thomas Gifford."  The tarnish absorbed the flash while the engravings reflected the light very strongly.  Canon 50D, 1/60th sec @ f/22, ISO 100, built in flash.

12-Refined

Commercial production of Absinthe resumed in the United States in 2007, prior to that it had been banned for almost a century.  This spirit was enjoyed by many an artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and Absinthe "ware" became marketing tools for other products and services.  Traditionally served diluted in equal parts cold water and a sugar cube.  Canon 50D, 1/1600th sec @ f/5, ISO 400, color adjusted.

11-Stairs

My house has service stairs, I think they are kind of neat.  This view looks down from the attic to the basement, with the sun coming through the window between floors 1 and 2.  Canon 50D, 1/50th sec @ f/4.5, ISO 800.

10-Conductor Speak

Some times I get bored on my commute.  This time I examined the seat marker.  The standard piece of paper placed on your seat by the lovely train conductor after you forfeit your ticket.  Never have figured out what all the little numbers mean or why some conductors fold/tear/punch the card prior to place it.  Actually, some of the time they don't even bother with it.  Canon 50D, 1/60th sec @ f/5.6, ISO 800.

9-The Best Part of Waking up.......

[Really] ...is Folgers in your cup.  99% of the time I'll take my coffee black, which can be tricky with all the crap coffees running about.  However it is possible to make a delicious cup of Folgers, at least it is when run through the Melitta "Ready set Joe" brewing system, best $3 you'll ever spend.  A process by which you boil water in the kettle and run it through the cone on the right most cup.  Truly does make a better cup of coffee, and in the morning, is simply fantastic.  I ordered a few more of them this past year as gifts and so I have a few spares.  Please note the NJ mug, it's one of my favorites.  Canon 50D, 1/20th sec @ f/3.5, ISO 800.

8-LAVA

 Spent the day inventorying lighting fixtures at the shop in Brooklyn.  Most were old, many were busted, some like the lava lamp, were just fun to see working.  It was so cold in storage that it took this little guy about an hour to start lava(ing).  He'll most likely find a permanent home upstairs.  I didn't have the Sony with me so the Canon ended up with the job of inventory photos.  Overkill much?  Canon 50D, 1/30th sec @ f/3.5, ISO 100.

7-Nay

Another day in Trenton, NJ with me playing the liberal progressive that I am.  The Marriage equality bill was voted down by the state senate, and thus moves back into the court system.  Although the vote was not in our favor, arriving at 8:30 AM for a 3:00 PM session allowed for me to get a front row seat in the gallery of the senate chamber.  And thusly this photograph of the final tally.  Sony Cyber-shot W50, 1/50th sec @ f/4, ISO 1000.

6-Eerie

The ice skating ring at Bryant Park in NYC is lit by rather large spots atop neighboring buildings.  As I was walking past I noticed the trees picking up the light in this rather eerie way, hence this photograph.

5-Reception

Living here for almost 6 months and I just today discovered a discarded TV antenna.  This long range receiving antenna connects to a lead that runs out the front of the house and terminates where the cable line from the street joins to the wiring in the house.  Evidently when the previous occupants made the switch to cable TV, they opted to leave the antenna in place.  I believe I will tap into this as it will surely beat my currant rabbit-ear setup.  Canon 50D, 1/13th @f/4, ISO 800, converted to Black and White.

4-Capitol Dome

The New Jersey State Capitol Dome.  After spending much of the morning and early afternoon speaking with the members of the state legislature on behalf of Garden State Equality regarding the merits of marriage equality, I snapped this photo on the way to my car.  We'll be going back Thursday and again next Monday.  Sony Cyber-shot W50, 1/100th sec @ f/8, ISO 400.

3-Three Foils

My three foils from when I fenced in High School.  I decided that this spring I was going to try to get back into this really amazing sport.  The one in the middle was the one I started with, and the outer two are the ones I became most comfortable using.  All three had lots of abuse thrown at them over several years and then saw the inside of a bag for the last 5.  Canon 50D, 1/13th sec @ f/5, ISO 800, color adjusted.

1-Light on the Wall

The table lamp in my living room.  I noticed the shade was the same color as the wall and liked how the light from the lamp played off the wall giving the image it's depth.  Canon 50D, 1/40th sec @ f/6.3, ISO 400.
